Flagged Revisions (Pending Changes) - MediaWiki extension, which introduces two new level of edits/articles reliability: Sighted (patrolled) and Quality (reviewed). Patrolling allows experienced users check articles for minimal level of suitability to Wikipedia standards. "Reviewed" status allows to an independent reviewer to acknowledge a certain version of an article as verified. FR allows to see at a glance at the watchlist, which articles has been modified by non-reviewers saving time and effort.
Unlike some previous MediaWiki extensions, switching on FR is optional. The communities can set up their own level of patrolling and reviewing standards, for example, Russian Wikipedia shows all edits immediately while in German Wikipedia all edits of non-patrollers should be approved to become visible.
This feature that allows to display a certain version of an article to a reader while saving all contributions, proved to be most controversial, the main argument being that it restricts the fundamental "can be edited by anybody" principle of Wikipedia.
While FR is available from 2008, among the ten most advanced Wikipedias only the German, Russian and Polish had fully implemented it with the English Wikipedia using it for some articles.
The statistics of switching FR on in the Wikipedias is as follows:
2008 - 7 projects 2009 - 2 projects 2010 - 2 projects
Showing that despite its advantages and absence of switching off, as a widely implemented feature FR failed to win widespread support.
If selected, in my presentation I will
- Describe the process of introduction and eventual acceptance of FR in the Russian Wikipedia including associated conflict and its' resolution
- Present statistics of page patrolling
- Discuss its' impact on the community
- Argue that positive impact of the extension far outweighs its' negative sides.

- Yes, I am interested. -- Comment: Did you do any research about non-'pedia Wikimedia projects (e.g.: Wikisource) in various languages? You may wish to use the remaining time you have till the convention date to do that. I can only speak for my own little corner, Wikitext. We have chosen to implement FR. Like ru.wikipedia, we show all edits immediately. If an "approved" article is later edited, the reader of the article gets notified that the current version differs from the earlier "stable" one, until it, too, is "approved." - I am very interested in this and i second Nahum's comment - non-Wikipedia projects are worth looking at from this perspective. Amir E. Aharoni
